Every Friday

Every Friday night I think about the song “Friday night and I ain’t got nobody. I got some money ‘cause I just got paid. How I wish I had someone to talk to. I’m in an awful way.” I can’t remember who sings it. Jimmy Buffet? It doesn’t matter. It’s kind of how I feel here. I could talk to Dustin or some of the people at the coffee shop, but people don’t really talk here. We might talk about the economy or what we’ll do when we get home or about what we did on our last trip. But it’s just noise with our mouths to pass the time. No one really talks. Or listens.

In better news, our director has been in a much, much better mood over the past few days. He’s so close to retiring that he can taste it and he’s been in a (dare I say it?) jolly mood. I think he has about a week left and I hope that he doesn’t have any more of his episodes where he goes mental. The new director (Phil) has taken a more hands on approach to our operations. So I think the old director has written off doing any work. The last package I gave him to take up got lost in the maze. But I just printed everything out again. I remembered to put the new coversheet on my TPS report and sent it up without a signature. I hope it goes all the way up.

And since it was Friday, that meant it was steak night. We went to yet another new place doe dinner. The steaks weren’t as good, but the rest of the food was better. And I was able to get a four pack of RipIts to go. Chris dropped his corn on the cob on the floor, which was pretty funny. We all had rum bundt cake with caramel drizzle icing which was amazing-good.

Joey and Heather called us from Kissimmee. Our offices and accommodations are not nearly as nice as we were told they would be. They don’t think that we’re moving down there nearly as quickly as we were previously told. We also haven’t heard from Chris’ replacement in the past few days. We’re not sure when he’s coming in.

And I also want to mention that I’m thankful that both of my suitemates have had good personal hygiene habits. Unfortunately, not everyone here is as lucky as I am. Some people have to live with the smelly kid.

  1. The song goes "Another Saturday night, and I ain't got nobody..." It was originally done by Sam Cooke 'way back in the late 50s/early 60s. Cat Stevens did quite a nice remake in the late 60s/early 70s. I avoid listening to Jimmy Buffet, so I don't know whether he did it or not.

The weather here was in the mid-50s today, and our snow is about 99% gone. *SIGH* Too bad.

One of my co-workers from the Lukens Drive, New Castle, office was down today, sitting in the office next to mine, coughing and sneezing and sneezing and coughing and blowing his nose then sneezing and sneezing and sneezing some more. I told him that if he made me sick, I was going to go over there and jerk a knot on his head. Sure enough, I'm starting to feel achy and crappy again; so I'm going to take some Nyquil and go to bed. On Monday, if I really am sick, I'm going to file a workers' comp claim and blame it on Rick. Bastard.

  2. Cat Stevens? That's what I meant to say. And Saturday? Hmmm... I wonder why I thought it was Friday.
