On hold

So I’ve been working my butt off for the one project for three weeks now. I’ve been working on other projects, but this one has been kind of rough. There are lots of details and there has been a lot of coordination. I wouldn’t go as far as saying that it’s my best work ever, but I’ve put in a lot of man hours with this project. And so I see my boss after lunch (she’s been in Kissimmee for the past few days) and one of the first things she tells me is that Project XXX is on hold because our company wants to use contractors. On Hold... I’ve got a feeling that this particular “on hold” is actually the kiss of death. Oh well, it’s not really MY project. But still, I put so much into this one…

And I met my counterpart down in Region II. It’s our new region and they haven’t actually stood the office up yet, but he will be my counterpart. And when they do get stood up, they will report to the Kissimmee office. So I spent a few hours with him today and trained him on everything I do and I’m going to send him all of my source documents so he can set up his shop down in Region II. I figure that whatever I can do to make his job easier now will make my job easier later when I move to Kissimmee. And when we were finished, he complemented me on being thorough and logical. Wow! Thanks!

And Chris’ replacement flew in last night. I didn’t go to the airport with Chris to meet him, like I normally would have, because I was working late with the Saturday VTC. But I met him today. Real nice guy named Mike. There are no shortages of “Mikes” around here, so for the purposes of this journal, I’m going to call him Perez. But I might call him Mike. Maybe Mike P. Anyway, Perez seems like a nice guy. We are both ready to leave this place and go to Kissimmee. We have a mutual friend (Ben) who works around the corner from us… we’re all ready to leave. We all talked about it for a while.

We still don’t know when we’re leaving for Kissimmee, but I’m really starting to get tired of getting jerked around.

My buddy Edwin, the “Godfather”, is in town for two days. He’s just passing through, but he called to let me know that he was coming. So we hung out for a little while and got some coffee. He’s a hospital architect, which I thought was kind of neat. He actually has a cooler job title, but I can’t remember what it is, but what he does is design hospitals and clinics. He totally digs it, but I can’t imagine that there are lots and lots of hospitals and clinics that need being built. Anyway, Ed is in town and wanted to know where to go in town to go Salsa dancing. What? How the…? I don’t know! But Ed is going to find somewhere to go tomorrow. I’m afraid that I’m not going to be able to join him. Though I can’t Salsa dance, it might be funny to watch me try. I do, however, like Chips and Salsa.

  1. Salsa dancing? That's kind of random! That's nice that you two get to hang out. Hope you have fun.

  2. "On hold"? Feh. Your boss had better be glad you don't grab her by her pointy hair, yank her out of her cheap suit, and fling her naked body down the hall (a la Alice and the pointy-haired boss in Dilbert).
